A dog named Munchie had his eyes fixed on the water during a recent walk with his parents along the edge of a pond in Denver, Colorado. He was anxious to see a swimmer and perhaps make a new animal companion.
Munchie was overjoyed when there was a sudden ripple.
Munchie was able to see more clearly as the ripple carried on till it reached the pond’s edge.
A rat, moving swiftly and happily just below the surface, was what it was. Although unexpected, the scene was not out of the ordinary. Rats are excellent swimmers despite spending much of their time on land. They can hold their breath underwater for up to three minutes, and their long tails and powerful legs make it easy for them to navigate through water.
Munchie has already observed an animal in the pond before. He frequently spends his walks waiting for a visitor.
Munchie’s father said, on condition that his name not be revealed, “Munchie has seen a beaver in the pond before. So he was already on the lookout.”
